Wake Forest University Excerpt

According to Wake Forest U Admissions (via their website):

“Wake Forest is a relational place; we want to hear from students who can tell us about their education but also their self-education.  So as you start writing, think of things you want to make sure we know about you. This is your chance!”

Our cherished motto of Pro Humanitate (“for humanity”) into action, build lifelong friendships, and connect your academic learning to the world through service, clubs, student government, athletics, civic engagement, field trips, study abroad, internships, and so much more.

Wake Forest’s mission is to train and mentor future leaders in research, teaching, and  innovation for serving humanity.  They value critical thinking, service, diversity, discovery, mentoring, and ethics.   Their vision is a diverse community of excellence, creating value in learning, discovery, and service for humanity.

In history, students choose a variety of books that reveal an interest or passion of theirs to admissions.  They considered what the book list says about THEM and what they want to resonate with admissions. Students were creative as possible with their book selections and thought about what books have really struck them at their core and why.  Students were pithy but specific and personal when responding.  You could tell that the topic they chose that most engaged them truly fascinated them while reflecting on what these examples say about their personality traits,  interests, and learning styles.

Supplemental Essay Example:

Playing music with my high school band has prepared me to engage with the Wake Forest community because it has taught me the importance of collaborative work and the value each individual brings to the goal of that work: beautiful music. When we practice, we care only about the music we are making together. I understand the positive impact criticism can provide in making us better as a whole and appreciate the love of music that brings us together to share, laugh, speak and create breathtaking sounds. The ability to express my emotions through the music, allows me to also feel closer to my friends when we exchange feelings through heart to heart conversations.

I believe the lessons I’ve learned through my band community have provided the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively toward common goals, and that is the best way to achieve a better, stronger community.
